Clinicians at WSVC have access to a very good clinical pathology services both in-house and by referral to remote specialist labs and technicians.
While pathology services do tend to be expensive they are an invaluable aid to treatment and decision making in critical pet health care. Bottom line here is that we are able to make better diagnostic decisions with the assistance we can get from these blood tests (better treatment choices, more accurate prognoses and better outcomes).
WSVC can now offer you two kinds of blood tests “inhouse” to monitor your pet’s wellbeing.
- Blood Chemistry test - This kind of test provides a panel of “biochem” results that can tell us how your pet’s internal organs are working. If everything is OK, this will be reflected by the results being within the normal range. A change in the expected result will tell us what is not functioning properly.
- Haematology test - This is also done from a small blood sample. The results tell us about the about the red blood cells, the white blood cells and the platelets. This information can help diagnose such things as infection, anaemia, dehydration etc.
This Vetscan blood analyser suite is a very beautiful bit of kit. The technology is right up there. It is as good as you can get for clinical veterinary “in-house” blood testing.
